On Friday, January 18, I had the pleasure to meet and speak with our newest Congressperson, Representative Sharice Davids.
As Representative Davids came to speak at the Kansas City Kansas Chamber of Commerce Congressional Forum, I had the opportunity to visit with her prior to taking the podium. What is typically a 1-2 minute conversation, Representative Davids and I spoke for 4-5 minutes. I was very pleased to hear her state her strong support for community colleges, that she was already aware of some of the programs we offer and wishes to have further conversations about projects she has in mind working with KCKCC and our students.
When she began her talk to the group, the importance of community colleges and the role we play in the economic growth and vitality of our communities and nation were her first comments. As a community college student herself, she continued to speak about the great two-year education she received and how it helped prepare her for her additional educational endeavors.
