Greetings Blue Devils!
Last week, the KCKCC President’s Extended Cabinet (PEC) met to review another great set of approximately 60 Suggestion Box submissions. Everyone on PEC was very enthusiastic about the number of terrific ideas submitted. Overall, 9 suggestions were selected to implement, approximately a dozen were chosen to further explore, and a handful of suggestions were already in process of implementing.
Below is a list of those chosen:
#51. Add an area on the website where employees are identified and grouped by department. Anonymous.
#63. Include a student photo with student IDs in Blackboard to make it easier for instructors to connect students’ names with faces. Dr. Doris Daniels.
#73. Install an outdoor sign near the Lodge by the Lake that has a campus map and available walking trails; utilizing money raised through the annual Blue Devil 5K and Kids Trot. Joseph Mundt.
#84. With the multiple locations KCKCC offers courses, and with the addition of courses to be offered at business locations, examine how KCKCC is currently using section numbers to identify course location. Lisa Gammon.
#87. Enhance the way parking lots are identified on main campus to make it more visible to visitors. Explore adding KCKCC logos and identifiers such as our Blue Devil to display additional school pride. Dana Sambol.
#88. Add important contact information, such as Campus Police and Help Desk to placards around campus and primary exterior doors. Dana Sambol.
#91. Examine current and possible future practices to help ensure employees do not receive excessive emails, and create a mechanism for individuals to share and promote campus activities. Anonymous.
#92. Install additional glass cases around the college for departments to showcase awards received during various student competitions. Chef Richard McPeake.
#101. Create mechanisms to publicize and promote upcoming campus events (rotating displays on flat-panel TV’s and possible college Outlook calendar). Student.
Other suggestions submitted that are already in progress or cabinet members are seeking additional information relate to:
- Hiring more bilingual faculty and staff.
- New employee orientation process and resource material.
- Availability of all offices/departments for students during the enrollment process.
- Enhancing features on the KCKCC job posting site.
- Keeping up-to-date org charts on KCKCC website.
- Allowing 100% employee tuition waiver for classes taught at the Technical Education Center and all locations, same as at main campus.
- Implementing as much as possible, a One Stop Shop, student solution center, for students to have access to resources needed for enrollment, advising, etc. in one geographic location.
- Outdoor seating at Pioneer Career Center.
Thanks for the terrific ideas, keep them coming!
During the last month, a couple people have asked about the process how Suggestion Box submissions are chosen and how people are made aware of the selections. A great question!
As a quick overview, when Suggestion Box submissions are made, those suggestions are sent directly to the President’s Office email account and the submitter will receive an email verifying the suggestion was received. Risala Allen and now Dana Sambol, and I receive these emails. Each suggestion is placed into an electronic folder for President’s Extended Cabinet to review.
Moving forward, the goal is to have PEC review a group of suggestions every quarter. Selected suggestions will be announced on my blog or in a campus email. As much as possible, ideas already in process or those that need additional follow-up will be identified as well.
As a firm believer that many of the best ideas come from people who are working the front lines with students and community members on a daily basis, I am excited to see so many faculty, staff and students still utilizing the Suggestion Box to share ideas how KCKCC can keep improving and growing as an institution on our pursuit of excellence!
The will to win, the desired to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential… These are the keys that will unlock the door to excellence. ~ Confucius
