Recognizing that faculty and staff who work with students on the front lines everyday, and students and community members who also interact with the College on a regular basis have great insight and ideas how to make KCKCC an even better college than we are today, a new electronic Suggestion Box was launched at the KCKCC Spring 2019 Convocation. Now, I’m pleased to report that many people have taken advantage of the suggestion box and submitted terrific ideas! To date, approximately 70 suggestions have been submitted. (Of course, some of the most ‘suggestive suggestions’ are related to recent inclement weather.) 🙂
Last week, members of the KCKCC President’s Extended Cabinet, which includes my regular Cabinet plus representatives from College Senate, and Faculty and Staff Senate’s met and reviewed the first 49. The seven suggestions below were selected to be implemented, and I believe will help elevate us to our next level of excellence!
- Include business office contact information on past due student bills (parent submitted). As a result of this suggestion a new cover letter with appropriate contact information and additional details will be included with all past due bills.
- Information regarding refunds on website (student submitted). Currently, information related to when payments are due is on the KCKCC website. Moving forward, information about the timing of refunds will also be included.
- Instructions how to login to the new email system (student submitted). When the College moved to Office 365 this link was not carried forward on the new website. This information is being re-added.
- Excellent Customer Service (staff submitted). As we talk about improving the level of customer service we offer our students, our community and each other, it would be helpful to identify what excellent customer service means to KCKCC. A cross-institutional task force will be formed to create this definition.
- Student-voted top faculty award (faculty submitted). KCKCC currently has a few faculty (and staff) awards that exist at different levels of the institution. A task force will be convened to look at how to implement student nominations and votes for both full-time and adjunct faculty awards at the institutional level.
- Signage at Pioneer Career Center (faculty submitted). Currently there is signage at the bottom of the hill on Spruce Street, but no signage at the entrance of the building. To help people know they are at the correct location, marketing will create signage for the glass entrance doors.
- Advisory Board collaboration space (faculty submitted). With the implementation of Office 365, IT will work with faculty and staff to teach them how to use the new collaboration tools that come with the new software.
$100 – The Big Hundo!! Individuals who submitted name and contact information with their suggestions will each receive the $100 promised with the launching of the new suggestion box.
Other great suggestions. The following ideas were also received. They are such great suggestions they were already in the works prior to receiving the suggestions!
- Charging stations in the Student Success Center and other locations (staff submitted).
- More student seating and hallways across the college (staff submitted).
- Instructor/coordinator communication with students (faculty submitted). (Coming with new CRM tool)
In addition to the seven that were selected this round, others were marked as “hold” to revisit at a later time.
Suggestion Box Name: Several names were proposed for a permanent name. While some were close, just waiting for that perfect one… Keep ’em coming!!
