KCKCC’s First Presidential Swap

Last Wednesday, KCKCC held its first ever Presidential Swap. On this day, Student Senate President, Aliyah Shaw became the KCKCC President for the Day! Likewise, I served as the KCKCC Student Senate President.

The purpose of this event was twofold in nature, one to provide Aliyah the opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a community college president, and two, to serve as a reminder for me what it’s like to live the student experience.

Aliyah did a great job, holding meetings with the representatives from the KCK Chamber of Commerce, the Wyandotte County Health Foundation and the KCKCC Foundation. She also managed to keep the President’s Cabinet in line while working to identify priorities for the College’s next strategic plan!

Meanwhile, I did my very best to take good notes so Aliyah would do well on her upcoming finals! While not in class, I had the privilege to work with the outstanding Student Senate Cabinet members and work in the student activities room.

It was a full day for both of us, and I appreciate everyone’s effort to make this day such a success. Special thanks to Mr. Ernie May and Dr. Valdenia Winn for allowing me to participate in their classes on Aliyah’s behalf.

Keep an eye out for a special segment in the next week or so on Channel 38theSpot. As the day was such a success, we will do it again next fall!!
