Resources Available to Move Your Course Online

Blackboard

Blackboard is a tool that allows faculty to add resources for students to access online. Powerpoint, Microsoft Word, video, audio, animation, and other applications are created outside of Blackboard and added into Blackboard courses for students to enhance teaching and learning efforts.

Panopto

Panopto is a lecture Capture system that record the screen of your computer,  and optionally, video of the presenter or perhaps a whiteboard, document camera, or lab experiment. The resulting recording is available to students via Blackboard.

Panopto is most commonly used as the name implies: to record a lecture presented in a classroom for future reference by the students. It can also be used to record short lectures for online classes, record a short demonstration that has to be repeated regularly, record student speeches or presentation as part of a project and assign graded video quizzes.

Zoom

Zoom is a web-conferencing tool licensed by KCKCC for Faculty and Students. can be used to do many things outside of a regular classroom. Try using Zoom to…

  • Meet with group members for projects and assignments
  • Work on homework with classmates
  • Record a presentation
  • Schedule virtual office hours
  • Practice language skills
  • Host a meeting for a club or organization

There is a 40 minute limit on the length of each session.

Respondus LockDown Browser

Respondus LockDown Browser™ is a customized browser that increases the security of test delivery in Blackboard. When students use Respondus LockDown Browser to access an exam, they are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications. Once an assessment is started, students are locked into it until it’s submitted for grading. Respondus LockDown Browser installer is specific to each institution and must be downloaded from the Instructor’s Lounge in Blackboard.

Respondus Monitor

Respondus Monitor is a proctoring application that must be used in conjunction with the Respondus LockDown Browser and a webcam to assist with the academic integrity of online exams. Respondus Monitor is ideally used in non-proctored online test environments. The webcam records the student’s movement while taking the test and flags any suspicious movement or additional figures in the frame. The recording and any suspicious flags are made available to the instructor at the conclusion of the test.

FlipGrid

Flipgrid is a social learning platform that allows educators to ask a question, then the students respond in a video. Students are then able to respond to one another, creating a “web” of discussion. All KCKCC students and faculty have access to FlipGrid as part of their Microsoft Office 365 subscription.

Pronto

Pronto is a mobile-first campus communication tool that can be used standalone or integrated with the LMS. It provides chat, language translation, file-sharing, live video sessions, school announcements, etc.

Although KCKCC does not license this product, Pronto is providing is now available for teachers at no cost for the remainder of the semester in order to stay connected to students. It will only be available through the end of May but take advantage of this availability if you’d like to use Pronto

OneNote Class Notebook

The OneNote Class Notebook is an app that helps you set up OneNote in your class. This app will create a class notebook, which includes three types of sub-notebooks:

  • Student Notebooks — private notebooks that are shared between each teacher and their individual students. Teachers can access these notebooks at any time, but students cannot see other students’ notebooks.
  • Content Library — a notebook for teachers to share course materials with students. Teachers can add and edit its materials, but for students, the notebook is read-only.
  • Collaboration Space — a notebook for all students and the teacher in the class to share, organize, and collaborate.

OneNote Class Notebook can be integrated into your Blackboard course shell. All KCKCC students and faculty have access to OneNote Class Notebook as part of their Microsoft Office 365 subscription.
